Much has been made about the Florida Music Scene. Having spawned such recent success stories as Further Seems Forever, Underoath, and, of course, Dashboard Confessional, there has been a rush to find "The Next...". And yet, here's Don't Die Cindy emerging from the panhandle beach town of Panama City as perhaps the next genre-bending, musical statement that will have other bands playing catch-up.
Taking their name from a documentary on the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, Don't Die Cindy blends the passionate energy of bands like Copeland, Cave In, and Twothirtyeight with the atmospheric intensity and experimentation of rock innovators like Pink Floyd and Radiohead. Their goal is to inject some artistic creativity and emotional complexity into a scene now dominated by screams, fashion, and trendchasers. Call their music what you will, judging by their more than 37,000 Myspace fans, Don't Die Cindy is on the right track.
Don't Die Cindy have done everything themselves on their own terms; booking, promoting shows, financing their recordings, designing and manufacturing their own merch, and yes, even van repair, all without a label. The band released their self-titled ep in 2004 on the net and through Smartpunk. With over 200 shows logged in 2005 alone, Don't Die Cindy made stops in over 40 states with one guy driving, one guy on the phone, and another working the button machine or cd burner (one member always sleeps cause safety is important ;-). Don't Die Cindy has shared the stage with Lydia, Waking Ashland, Underoath, Classic Case, and Chasing Victory.
Don't Die Cindy has been together for 3 short years. Formed by frontman Patrick Hosey in response to a punk rock letdown, Patrick searched for nearly a year for the guys who were the right fit, finally finding bassist Ryan Nelson, melodic guitarist Jonathan Hoffman, classical keyboardist Mike Anderson, and hard-hitting drummer Steve Kopacz. Coming from diverse bands like Embraced, Atonal Spiral, and Son of Ray, each member brought their own bizarre chemistry towards developing the band's sound. After over 2 years of hardwork and touring, Mike moved on to pursue other endeavors.
After searching long and hard to find the right fit, Don't Die Cindy recently signed with Cake Records. You can expect the hard work to continue but with even more people behind the band to help spread the word. Look for Don't Die Cindy's debut full length on Cake Records coming soon!
